Overview
Series will cover the following when caring for hypertension patients: foundations, first line strategy optimization, resistant hypertension, secondary hypertension, special populations, practical challenges, and system solutions.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Apply current evidence-based hypertension guidelines to diagnose, assess, and manage patients with hypertension in primary care settings.
  2. Implement first-line treatment optimization strategies, including appropriate medication selection, titration, and follow-up, to improve blood pressure control.
  3. Utilize case-based clinical decision-making approaches to reduce clinical inertia and advance hypertension treatment when indicated.
  4. Identify patients with resistant hypertension and develop evidence-based management plans, including appropriate referral strategies.
  5. Evaluate patients for secondary hypertension, including primary hyperaldosteronism, and initiate appropriate diagnostic testing and specialty referral when indicated.
  6. Tailor hypertension management strategies for special populations while addressing common barriers to treatment adherence and blood pressure control.
  7. Incorporate interprofessional and system-based approaches to hypertension management that enhance collaboration, improve quality metrics, reduce cardiovascular events, and support value-based care outcomes.
