DEA MATE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


The Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act mandates that ALL providers holding a DEA license complete mandatory education.  Please review the letter each licensee should have received via email:  DEA MATE Letter

 

MATE Requirements

    • 8 hours of education in the management and treatment of patients with opioids and other substance use disorders
    • One-time only mandate
    • Prior education can be counted towards the 8 hours
    • Applies to ALL* providers applying for a NEW license, or due to RENEW on or after 06.27.2023
    • Licensees must attest to having completed this education when applying or renewing, and provide documentation if audited

*Exempt Providers

    • New Graduates (less than 5 years) from a medical, advanced practice nursing, or physician assistant school in the United States with at least 8 hours of opioid or other substance use disorder curriculum in their training program
    • Anyone holding an X-waiver (DATA 2000 waiver) completed IN CONJUNCTION with the required learning for that waiver
