Purple Light Project Symposium 2026 - Compassion Fatigue Within a Compassionate Culture

Compassion fatigue can affect healthcare professionals across clinical, administrative, and leadership roles, influencing individual well-being, team dynamics, and the delivery of care. This interprofessional symposium explores the prevalence, signs, symptoms, and impact of compassion fatigue while normalizing conversations about caregiver well-being. Through expert discussion, experiential exercises, case-based learning, and practical resilience strategies, participants will develop approaches to recognize compassion fatigue, strengthen self-awareness and communication, support colleagues, and identify individual, team, and system-level strategies that promote healthier and more resilient healthcare environments.

1. Identify signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue and distinguish compassion fatigue from burnout and related work-related stress responses.
2. Describe the impact of compassion fatigue on caregiver well-being, communication, team dynamics, and the delivery of care.
3. Apply practical strategies in self-compassion, active-listening, and trauma-informed care-based principles to manage stress responses and support effective workplace interactions.
4. Develop individual, team, and system-level strategies to address compassion fatigue and promote healthier, more resilient healthcare environments.

• Social Workers: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Hartford HealthCare is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Hartford HealthCare maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 4.00 cultural competence continuing education credits. 

• Athletic Trainers: Hartford HealthCare (BOC AP#: P12155) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs). This program is eligible for a maximum of 4.00 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program. 

• All Other Learners: All other learners will receive a Certificate of Participation for 4.00 hours of education. Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education.

Cancellations received in writing no less than 5 business days before the course will receive a full refund.  No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that date.  All refunds will be made in accordance with the procedures of the HHC Accounts Payable Department, and may take up to 60 days.  Please send cancellation requests to continuinged@hhchealth.org.
