The Inaugural Hartford HealthCare Digestive Health Institute Obesity Management Symposium is a comprehensive, full-day educational program designed to advance clinician understanding of obesity as a complex, chronic disease and to enhance evidence-based treatment across the care continuum. The first half of the program will provide a foundational overview of obesity management. Expert faculty will review the pathophysiology of obesity, emerging perspectives beyond BMI including body composition and evolving disease classifications, and current standards of care. Presentations will address nutritional considerations, physical activity and exercise prescription, pharmacotherapy, and metabolic and bariatric surgery, equipping clinicians with practical, up-to-date strategies for comprehensive treatment planning. The second half of the symposium will focus on advanced and complex obesity care. Faculty will explore obesity-related comorbidities and high-risk clinical scenarios, including chronic kidney disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal malignancies, and multidisciplinary management of complex cases through panel discussion. Emphasis will be placed on integrating specialty care with medical and surgical weight management approaches to improve outcomes. This symposium is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, dietitians, and allied health professionals involved in caring for patients with obesity. By addressing both foundational principles and advanced clinical challenges, the program aims to strengthen clinicians’ ability to deliver comprehensive, coordinated, and patient-centered obesity care across the full spectrum of disease severity.

1. Describe the pathophysiology of obesity and apply updated diagnostic frameworks beyond BMI, including body composition and emerging disease classifications.
2. Compare evidence-based treatment options for obesity, including nutritional therapy, physical activity interventions, pharmacotherapy, and metabolic and bariatric surgery.
3. Integrate multidisciplinary treatment strategies to develop comprehensive, individualized care plans across the obesity care continuum.
4. Identify and manage obesity-related comorbidities, including chronic kidney disease, liver disease, and gastrointestinal malignancies, using coordinated specialty care approaches.
5. Apply evidence-based decision-making strategies to complex obesity cases in order to improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.

Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered: Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU).  If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU).  RD's and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log.  Performance Indicator selection is at the learner's discretion. This activity is designated for a maximum of 0.00 CDR CPEUs. 

All Other Learners: All other learners will receive a Certificate of Participation for a maximum of 0.00 hours of education. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing no less than 5 business days before the course will receive a full refund.  No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that date.  All refunds will be made in accordance with the procedures of the HHC Accounts Payable Department, and may take up to 60 days.  Please send cancellation requests to continuinged@hhchealth.org.
