Dinner will begin at 5:00pm

Lecture will begin at 5:30pm

Overview
The Science of Ingestive Behavior: From Licks to Bursts highlights how detailed ingestive-behavior analysis can guide interventions in obesity, digestive disorders, eating disorders, and clinical nutrition. The session clarifies the distinction between ingestive and broader eating behavior, introduces key methods such as microstructural analysis and the drinkometer, and explains how intake patterns vary with macronutrient composition, fasting status, metabolic health, and training. Attendees will gain practical insight into how these data inform more precise therapeutic strategies.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Distinguish between ingestive behavior and broader concepts such as eating behavior.
  2. Describe the principles and methodology of the analysis of the microstructure of ingestive behavior in humans, including the use of the drinkometer.
  3. Interpret how microstructural parameters vary with macronutrient composition, fasting status, metabolic health, and training status.
  4. Discuss how ingestive behavior research can inform interventions in obesity, digestive disorders, eating disorders, and clinical nutrition.
