Overview
This series provides clinicians with hands-on training in evidence-informed and clinically impactful manual therapy techniques for the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral regions. Content includes medical screening principles to support safe and effective assessment and treatment of spine-related conditions, with emphasis on integrating orthopedic manual therapy into clinical decision-making.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Review and demonstrate medical screening for the assessment and treatment of the spine including orthopedic manual therapy.
  2. Demonstrate and utilize clinical reasoning skills in the application of manual therapy techniques and exercise selection in treatment of the spine.
  3. Review and enhance positioning and psychomotor skills in delivering manual therapy techniques to the spine.
  4. Review the Treatment Based Classification System for lumbar spine conditions and utilization in clinical decision making.
  5. Learners will gain exposure to the role and effect of language and communication in evaluation and treatment situations.
  6. Review and demonstrate communication strategies for MSK diagnoses and imaging findings
  7. Identify and differentiate the various types of pain.
  8. Discuss optimal treatment strategies for chronic pain.
  9. Learners will gain experience with use of motivational interviewing techniques and strategies to improve patient self efficacy.
  10. Learners will practice implementing graded motor imagery interventions.
  11. Review and demonstrate quantitative sensory testing for data collection and clinical decision making in the chronic pain patient.

Non-Physician Attendance (credits designated as AMA PRA Category 1) (3.00 hours), Orthopedic Education (3.00 hours)

In support of improving patient care, Hartford HealthCare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

  • All Learners: All learners will receive a Certificate of Participation for 3.00 hours of education. Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of certificates of participation for educational activities certified at the AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ level from organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education.
