Overview
Pharmaceutical education directed towards the specific needs of the advanced practice team.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Review a variety of pharmaceutical topics as they relate to specific disease states
  2. Discuss how pharmacy and APP teams can work together to foster a culture of safety at HHC
  3. Apply pharmaceutical knowledge and prescribing strategies to inpatient and outpatient care
  4. Describe clinical and legal considerations in caring for hospitalized patients who use medical marijuana at home.
  5. Review the current evidence and guidelines regarding the management of buprenorphine in the perioperative setting.
  6. Review ADA Standards of Care updates 2025 for the diagnosis and management of diabetic ketoacidosis
  7. Initiating or titrating Guideline-Directed Medical Therapies during hospitalization is safe, feasible, and crucial for improving post-discharge outcomes and reducing readmissions.
  8. Explore emerging anti-obesity medications currently in development, highlighting potential novel targets and strategies for more effective and personalized treatment options. 
  9. To provide updates on medications prescribed in outpatient setting (both FDA-approved and off-label) for patients living with dementia
  10. Select appropriate first-line pharmacologic treatment of hypertension based on patient comorbidities, race/ethnicity, and age in accordance with current hypertension guidelines.
  11. Identify key and potentially serious side effects associated with newer antipsychotics.
  12. Review best-practice considerations and high-value targets for deprescribing in 30 minutes or less.
  13. Review the latest guidelines for menopausal hormone replacement therapy.
  14. Create and implement a patient care plan for moderate sedation utilizing best practice guidance.
  15. Increase confidence in offering Pre-Exosure Prophylaxis for HIV.
