CBD: What you need to know for the impact on patients and athletes

CBD and THC products are being widely used by patients and athletes to help with management of pain, anxiety, recovery and performance. With many states now legalizing CBD and THC products, it is important for medical care providers, athletic administrators and support staff, to understand how CBD interacts within the body, the new federal, state and athletic laws and regulations, and how to provide education and support to patients and athletes. It is also important to understand the differences between product types and to appropriately identify and analyze the products to differentiate the values and types that are available.

1. Differentiate relevant cannabis terminology, state/federal regulatory guidelines, and sport organizations policies (NCAA, WADA, NFHS).
2. Formulate an understanding of the endocannabinoid system and the effects of various cannabinoids (THC, CBD, etc…) on athletic performance.
3. Differentiate product availability, components, and efficacy through demonstration of certificate of analysis critique.
4. Demonstrate the importance of healthcare provider cannabis knowledge for future current and future patient-interaction best practices.

In support of improving patient care, Hartford HealthCare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

• Physicians: Hartford HealthCare designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 2.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
• Nurses: This activity is designated for a maximum of 2.50 ANCC contact hours.
• All Other Learners: All other learners will receive a Certificate of Participation for 2.50 hours of education .  Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing no less than 5 business days before the course will receive a full refund.  No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that date.  All refunds will be made in accordance with the procedures of the HHC Accounts Payable Department, and may take up to 60 days.  Please send cancellation requests to continuinged@hhchealth.org.

Hartford HealthCare reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, course fees will be fully refunded. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
