Building Gender Literacy: Exploring Family Matters

Featuring speakers recognized as experts in the field of gender health, and a panel discussion of people sharing their personal experiences, including both affirming and non-affirming healthcare practices. The panel will be followed by a Q&A.

1. Identify at least one way of incorporating gender affirming care to their practice
2. Conceptualize the intersubjective relationship between provider and receiver of care
3. Navigate the legal system as it relates to name change, parental rights, estate planning, etc.
4. Discuss reproductive care and access to OB/GYN care for trans and gender diverse patients
5. Analyze the impact of a family member's gender transition on the entire family system, and apply this understanding to develop strategies that effectively support the needs of all family members
6. Review the current literature on family support and how it affects LGBTQ youth
7. Examine barriers in communication from the young person's perspective

• Physicians: Hartford HealthCare designates this activity for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)^TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  
  • MOC for American Board of Internal Medicine:  Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6.00 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
• Psychologists: Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. 
• Nurses: This activity is designated for a maximum of 6.00 ANCC contact hours.
• Social Workers: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Hartford HealthCare is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program.  State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.  Hartford HealthCare maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 6.00 Social & Cultural Competence continuing education credits.
• Other Learners: All other learners will receive a Certificate of Participation. Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education.

                                    

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing no less than 5 business days before the course will receive a full refund.  No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that date.  All refunds will be made in accordance with the procedures of the HHC Accounts Payable Department, and may take up to 60 days.  Please send cancellation requests to continuinged@hhchealth.org.

Hartford HealthCare reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, course fees will be fully refunded. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
