Overview
Featuring speakers recognized as experts in the field of gender health, and a panel discussion of people sharing their personal experiences, including both affirming and non-affirming healthcare practices. The panel will be followed by a Q&A.


Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify the disparate risks of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the LGBTQI+ community.
  2. Review the recommended screening and treatment options for common STIs.
  3. Discuss methods to prevent common STIs, including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis options.
  4. Discuss the diagnostic criteria and trajectory of gender dysphoria in children and adolescents.
  5. Review the risks and benefits of medications that pause puberty.
  6. Examine the risks and benefits of hormones that feminize and masculinize.
  7. Identify common indications for facial feminization and surgical reconstruction of the transgender chest.
  8. Describe requirements and WPATH-based standards of practice for gender affirming chest reconstruction.
  9. Summarize the effects of gender-affirming operations on quality of life for transgender individuals.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Hartford HealthCare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
  • Physicians: Hartford HealthCare designates this activity for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  
  • Social Workers: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Hartford HealthCare is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program.  State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.  Hartford HealthCare maintains responsibility for this course.  Social workers completing this course receive 6.00 Social & Cultural Competence continuing education credits.
