Overview
Activity Goal: The goal of this activity is to provide the participants with the most current data on drug and device treatments for patients with acute cardiopulmonary shock.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe characteristics of a patient in shock
  2. Identify features for a patient requiring inter-facility transfer that suggest the need for expedited transfer
  3. Describe features of a COVID patient suggestive that ECMO is indicated
  4. Describe the role of lung transplantation for the COVID pneumonia patient
  5. Describe the indications and contraindications for targeted temperature therapy post cardiac arrest
  6. Describe the pros, cons and timing strategies of parenteral nutrition for the critically ill
  7. Describe the role of point of care ultrasound in cardiac arrest
  8. Identify key emotional and psychological features in the caring of critically ill patients from a patient and provider standpoint
  9. Discuss the pharmacologic implications of ECMO on medication administration
