Overview
This activity is designed to share safe and recommended prescribing opioids, tapering opioids, and non-opioid recommendations in order to provide safe and effective care for pain treatment while decreasing the addiction rates.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Prescribe opioids in a safe and effective manner
  2. Taper opioids in a safe and effective manner
  3. Utilize non-opioid pain management techniques, when applicable, including non-opioid medications, physical therapy, and integrative medicine therapies
  4. Apply updated research and treatment recommendations when treating pain-related complaints
  5. Improve patient-provider relationships, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction by identifying resources and engaging the patient in their care

  • Psychologists: Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. This activity is designated for a maximum of 3.75 APA CEP credits. 
  • Nurses: This activity is designated for a maximum of 3.75 ANCC contact hours.
  • Pharmacists & Pharmacy Techs: This activity is approved for a maximum of 3.75 CPE contact hours. ACPE UAN: xxxxxxxxx-P and xxxxxxxx-T.  Awarding of credit is based on completing an activity evaluation form.
  • Social Workers: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Hartford HealthCare is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.  Hartford HealthCare maintains responsibility for this course.  Social workers completing this course receive a maximum of 3.75 [type] continuing education credits.
  • Athletic Trainers: Hartford HealthCare (BOC AP#: P12155) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs).  This program is eligible for a maximum of 3.75 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.
  • Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered: Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU).  If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU).  RD's and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log.  Performance Indicator selection is at the learner's discretion. This activity is designated for a maximum of 3.75 CDR CPEUs. 
  • All Other Learners: All other learners will receive a Certificate of Participation for a maximum of 3.75 hours of education. Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education.
