Overview
Our goal is to provide evidence-based education on safe opioid prescribing, management, including tapering, monitoring, detection of opioid use disorder and timely and appropriate intervention for patient's suffering with opioid use disorder. An in depth look at the 2022 CDC guidelines and discussions and deviation from the 2016 guidelines will be reviewed. Opioid sparing pain management techniques along with non-opioid alternatives for pain management will be discussed as well.


Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Prescribe opioids in a safe and effective manner
  2. Taper opioids in a safe and effective manner
  3. Utilize non-opioid pain management techniques, when applicable, including non-opioid medications, physical therapy, interventional pain management, and integrative medicine therapies
  4. Apply updated research and treatment recommendations when treating pain-related complaints
  5. Improve patient-provider relationships, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction by identifying resources and engaging the patient in their care
