Diabetes at the Bedside 2026: Strategies for Glycemic Control, Nutrition, and Wound Healing

Registration is open to ALL HHC team members to attend the lecture portion virtually.  In addition, a skills session will be held for SVMC participants attending in person after the lectures. 

This education session for nurses, dietitians, and any others intereseted will review comprehensive nursing care of the diabetic patient's glycemic management, dietary approaches and wound care.

1. Review principles of glycemic management for bedside nursing including glycemic monitoring and insulin administration.
2. Identify patient-specific factors in the acute care setting that influence glycemic management to incorporate these considerations into individualized nursing care plans.
3. Discuss strategies nurses can use to work through challenging patient situations in the acute setting.
4. Explain the relationship between carbohydrate intake, blood glucose levels, and insulin requirements in patients with diabetes
5. Demonstrate the principles of carbohydrate counting and apply them to meal planning and patient education
6. Compare common insulin types and their corresponding timing considerations for patient care
7. Describe the coordination of insulin administration with meal timing to support safe and effective glycemic management
8. Discuss the impact of poor nutrition and glycemic control on wound healing
9. Explain why diabetic patients are at high risk for foot injuries
10. Explain how neuropathy, vascular disease, and repetitive trauma contribute to diabetic foot ulcer formation
11. Identify appropriate offloading techniques to minimize pressure and improve wound healing outcomes
12. Discuss evidence-based patient education approaches for daily foot care, injury prevention, and timely reporting of foot concerns

• Cancellations received at least 5 business days prior to the activity start date will receive a full refund
• Cancellations received less than 5 business days prior to the activity start date, or failure to attend the activity absent an illness or family emergency (no-show), are non-refundable

• Registration fees are non-refundable once access is granted
