Overview

This is a multi-topic symposium regarding the variety of medical and surgical conditions which involve vascular surgeons as part of either procedures or disease management. Attendees will hear didactic lectures, patient case reviews, debates, and interactive question and answer style programming to improve their understanding of five adjunctive tenets of vascular disease management. Attendees will review the perioperative management of patients with aortic disease, understand the role for treatment of aortic pathology at different sizes, and the plan for surveillance of both treated and untreated aortic pathology. They will review the current and future trends in management of patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm, thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, and arch pathology, as well as anticipated short and long-term complications regarding treatment of these conditions.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss the optimal screening and surveillance methods for patients prior to aneurysm repair, ideal size criteria for intervention, and factors that may affect what size to treat aneurysms
  2. Describe the risk factors of open abdominal aortic repair, including incisional-related risk factors between transabdominal and retroperitoneal approach
  3. Analyze cardiovascular risk factors in patients with aortic aneurysm disease and evaluate the role of preoperative testing in risk stratification.
  4. Review different options for treatment of complex aneurysms with fenestrated and branched technology
  5. Evaluate current evidence guiding the management of uncomplicated acute Type B dissection, including early intervention and medical therapy.
  6. Review current technology for treatment of ascending aortic and arch pathology
