Overview

As we prepare to celebrate and reflect upon Black History Month and our roles in healthcare, we must acknowledge the opportunity we have to further diversify our provider workforce for each other and most importantly for our patients.

We offer an opportunity to learn more about the current state of medicine and the paucity of black male providers by engaging in a conversation of how we can work with our community to improve upon that in the coming years.  We welcome you to join us for the viewing of the documentary “Black Men in White Coats”, followed by an engaging panel discussion with Dr. Dale Okorodudu, the founder of the documentary, as well as representatives from our HHC black provider community.

The evening schedule will be as follows:

  • 5:00-6:00 pm - Arrival & Networking (refreshments and light hors d 'oeuvres)
  • 6:15-7:30 pm - Documentary screening
  • 7:30-8:15 pm - Panel Discussion
  • 8:15-830 pm - Closing Remarks

This event is co-sponsored by the following departments: Academic Affairs, Center for Human Experience, Hartford Hospital Department of Medicine, The HHC Center for Health Equity, and the Wadsworth Athenaeum.

  1. Review barriers faced by the black community currently related to a career in medicine
