GRIEV_ING: The Crucial Conversations We Never Want To Have

EMS is an ever evolving practice. As technology advances providers are doing more in the field than ever before, including resuscitation, and the termination of it. Even with the advances in clinical medicine, a long identified gap in our educational programs has yet to be corrected in many places: most EMS providers are uneducated, uncomfortable, and unreliable when it comes to death notification. This interactive lecture reviews the fundamentals of grief, the impact of FPDR (family present during resuscitation) in the pre hospital context, and provides EMS clinicians with a framework for effective communication when called to upon to handle a death notification.
