Instructions for Completion

Date & Location
Sunday, March 28, 2021, 8:00 AM - Sunday, October 31, 2021, 11:00 PM, Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network, Online

Overview
Consuming too few calories for their activity level can trigger a serious condition called Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports (RED-S) syndrome, or what’s more commonly known as the Female Athlete Triad. Orthopedics, internal medicine, endocrine, rehabilitation, nutrition, OBGYN, physiatry, psychology all provide access points to the system with poor identification of full diagnosis and intersystems affect. Earlier identification of RED-S can implement an interdisciplinary approach and provide preventative medicine for overall health of the athlete. Left untreated, this condition could not only end an athletic career; it could also harm long-term health by increasing risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. This program will include a compilation of lecture, case study, research reviews, and best practice care recommendation as well as a live Q&A opportunity.

Objectives
  1. Define Female Triad and Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome (RED-S)
  2. Identify the differences in clinical assessment tools for RED-S
  3. Identify the inter-professional management of RED-S
  4. Define low energy availability
  5. Discuss the whole systems impact of RED-S
  6. Identify orthopedic conditions associatied with reds
  7. Optimally manage a patient with RED-S across the continuum of care and providers
