Overview
Solid organ transplantation has become the standard of care for individuals with end-stage kidney, liver, or heart disease. There are more than 103,000 people in the United States on the United Network for Organ Sharing wait list. Advances through research have significantly impacted the success rates of transplantation, resulting in increased life years and improved quality of life for transplant recipients. Care of patients pre and post transplant is conducted in collaboration with community providers. Participants who attend this symposium will be able to apply updated therapies to the care of individuals with end-stage organ disease.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify the benefits of utilizing Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) in Solid Organ Transplantation (SOT).
  2. Identify barriers and strategies to successfully transplant a patient with alcohol hepatitis.
  3. Describe strategies to identify and overcome addiction and improve partnership before and after solid organ transplant.
  4. Describe the work-up and future concerns when considering a patient for donor nephrectomy.
  5. Identify the members of the multi-disciplinary team and considerations needed to maximize success for transplantation.
