HHC Digestive Health Institute Obesity Management Certificate Program

The Hartford HealthCare Obesity Management Certificate Program prepares advanced practice providers with the knowledge and clinical skills to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based obesity care. This specialty curriculum builds from foundational principles to advanced management of complex obesity and related conditions. Graduates will be equipped to confidently treat obesity using patient-centered, interdisciplinary strategies that improve long-term health outcomes.

This three-year certificate program is led by Dr. Devika Umashanker, Medical Director of Hartford HealthCare’s Digestive Health Institute Medication Management Program. Participants will complete a structured core curriculum complemented by elective learning opportunities that allow for deeper exploration of specialized topics within obesity management.

Eligibility Requirements

• Board certified and licensed as a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) 

• Minimum of one year of APRN or PA-C clinical experience 

• HHC Employee or HHC Affiliate Employee

• Non-Refundable Application Fee: $25

• Accepted Applicant Program Fee: $300 

Admissions Process

• Application Opens: March 15^th

• Application Closes: June 30^th (you may be contacted for an interview)

• Application Decisions: August 1^st
