Overview
The goal of this activity is to provide the participants with the most current data on drug and device treatments for patients with acute cardiopulmonary shock.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe characteristics of a patient in shock.
  2. Identify features for a patient requiring inter-facility transfer that suggest the need for expedited transfer.
  3. Describe the indications and contraindications for targeted temperature therapy post cardiac arrest.
  4. Identify key emotional and psychological features in the caring of critically ill patients from a patient and provider standpoint.
  5. Discuss the pharmacologic implications of ECMO on medication administration.

In support of improving patient care, Hartford HealthCare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
  • Physicians: Hartford HealthCare designates this activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  
    • MOC for American Board of Internal Medicine:  Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6.00  medical knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
    • MOC for American Board of Surgery:  Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program.   • Nurses:  This activity is approved for 6.25 ANCC hours.
  • Social Workers: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Hartford HealthCare is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Hartford HealthCare maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 6.25 hours of credit continuing education credits.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received in writing no less than 5 business days before the course will receive a full refund.  No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that date.  All refunds will be made in accordance with the procedures of the HHC Accounts Payable Department, and may take up to 60 days.  Please send cancellation requests to continuinged@hhchealth.org.
