Overview
The 1st HVI AP Cardiology Critical care conference is designed to bridge a very specific knowledge gap that traditional cardiology conferences and general critical care conferences tend to leave unaddressed. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend lectures from multiple disciplines including physicians, HVI APP’s, and pharmacists all specialized in the care of the critically ill cardiology patient.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Interpret invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic data to guide clinical decision making in patients with cardiogenic shock
  2. Describe major complications associated with Intra aortic Balloon pump placement
  3. List the indications for continuous renal replacement therapy in the cardiac ICU patient
  4. Identify early clinical signs of decompensation in cardiogenic shock
  5. Identify the most common causes of bacterial endocarditis and current treatment options
  6. Compare mechanisms of action and clinical applications of loop diuretics, thiazide diuretics, and adjunctive agents in critically ill cardiac patients
  7. Apply hemodynamic principles to guide management of cardiogenic shock in the peripartum population
  8. Evaluate the impact of ventilator settings on cardiac function
  9. Manage complex cardiac intensive care unit patients including cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, and post-procedural instability
